There are several treatment options for various conditions; a brief description of some of the most frequently used treatment options offered by VioSleep is presented below.

Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)

For moderate-to-severe sleep apnea, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is the primary treatment of choice. In CPAP treatment, patient requires to wear a mask over the nose during sleep, which is connected by a hose to a small air pressure generator. When the mask is worn, the air pressure in the throat is increased. The machine adjusts the air pressure automatically depending on the condition so that it is just enough to prevent the throat from collapsing during sleep. The CPAP eliminates a person's snoring, gasping, and choking during the night.
With medical advancement, CPAP technology has improved considerably, the devices are much quieter and there are numerous mask options that improve the fit and comfort of the patient.

Dental Appliances

Second-line methods of treating sleep apnea include dental appliances, which reposition the lower jaw and tongue, they are designed to keep the mandible (jaw) and/or tongue in a forward position that allows the airway to remain open. Generally, oral devices work best for patients with mild Sleep Apnea. Such devices can be specifically designed by dentists with special expertise in treating sleep apnea.

Stents

The AlaxoStent is a medical device for treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring that the patient can insert into his nose and throat at night and remove in the morning.
Complementing conventional therapy of OSA the AlaxoStent offers a new non-surgical and therapeutically efficient treatment which provides numerous advantages in handling and increased convenience to the patients. The stent is a smooth tubular braid made from a shape memory metal (nitinol). The Alaxo stent is effective in the management of mild to moderate Sleep Apnea.

Lifestyle changes

Lifestyle changes with above treatments are effective ways to manage sleep apnea. Here are some tips that may help reduce apnea severity:

  • Lose weight. If you are overweight, this is the most important action you can take to reduce your sleep apnea
  • Avoid alcohol. Alcohols causes frequent nighttime awakenings, and make the upper airway breathing muscles relax.
  • Quit smoking. Cigarette smoking worsens swelling in the upper airway, making apnea and snoring worse.
